Owner, Architect
Vancouver, BC

Architect AKNW registered in Germany, Passive House Designer and Project Manager at Cornerstone Architecture, Vancouver BC | PHI Certified Passive House Designer | PHI Certified Passive House Tradesperson | LEED AP | Certified Joiner + Furniture Maker (GER) | Co-Founding Director of CanPHI West/Passive House Canada | Instructor for Passive House Canada and the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT)

Sandra’s very unique and diverse skill set has developed from her journey that started by growing up on a farm in Germany to becoming a certified furniture maker through a 3-year craftsman/window manufacturing apprenticeship, to becoming a registered Architect in Germany, to becoming a certified Passive House Designer by PHI then moving to Vancouver, Canada in 2005. Along the way she became a certified Passive House Tradesperson and LEED©AP.

Holding an architectural degree from Peter Behrens School of Architecture, Germany and a degree in joinery/furniture making, Sandra worked on the design and construction of numerous low-energy and passive house buildings in Germany before relocating to Vancouver in 2005 where she has been living and working for the past 12 years.

One of the early pioneers to bring the Passive House movement to Canada, Sandra is a co-founding director of CanPHI West/Passive House Canada, facilitator and head instructor of the BCIT Passive House Tradesperson Course. She continues her passion to educate and inform the public and clients in the need for low energy use and comfort in buildings.

This mix of theory, craft, teaching and professional experience has given Sandra a deep knowledge to apply on projects - big picture and detail oriented.

Balancing practical with theory, Sandra is currently working on Passive house multi-residential and mixed-use projects at Cornerstone Architecture in Vancouver. As an Architect and tradesperson from Germany she applies the unique rigors of design theory and construction methods to her projects. Through Rohler Passive House Design (RPHD) - dedicated to “use less” - she is teaching Passive House courses for BCIT and Passive House Canada.
